Sunova has a team of St. Bernard?s (one shown above) deployed at their locations. Here?s a look at what else the credit union has cooking in the marketing department.

Social Media Strategy

We are just starting to get into social media. We?ve made a conscious decision not to introduce social media elements just for the sake of having them. We know that if we?re going to spend the time on a Facebook page, Twitter, etc., it has to offer some value for our members and potential members and simply repeating member messages over those channels isn?t good enough.

We?re in the middle of creating a new website and once that launches, we?ll be taking a closer look at social media and how we can incorporate different elements into our marketing plan.

Currently, we have one Twitter account which links to a blog that features photos of our D.O.Gs. That launched not long ago, and we?re just starting to focus on generating more traffic to the site. We also have a YouTube channel which includes a few Sunova videos, however, we haven?t actively used or promoted it.

To sum up our thoughts on social media ? if we do it, we want to do it right, and offer a unique twist to our messaging that will encourage more than just a few ?Likes.? If and when we do it, we want it to be as unique as the Sunova brand and encourage our members to interact with us online.

?

SUNOVA SHOP ? The credit union partnered with Clear eTail to create an online e-Store. The shop is exclusively for members, so only they know what schwag, garb and other goodies lurk within.

Favorite Campaign

We have a long list to choose from, but my personal favorite campaign was our rebrand in May 2008. That?s when we introduced our new brand and name, Sunova. After working with a committee of employees, our marketing department led the name change strategy from initial name, to logo development and member launch. We incorporated a number of marketing initiatives into the launch of the new brand including:

  • an internal launch for our management team and all staff (the ?Sunova Soiree & Spark Gala?)
  • a new logo and visual identity guidelines
  • a member direct mail piece introducing the changes
  • a series of teaser ads to generate curiosity prior to the launch
  • in-branch and community advertising

In a nutshell, the creation of the Sunova brand resulted in taking all of the best things about our organization and repackaging them in a much more modern and appealing way. After the launch, the roots of our organization were still there, but the advertising and user experience better reflected what we were all about.

The Biggest Challenges Over the Next 12-24 Months

Sunova has experienced much growth over the last year with the introduction of three new branches featuring a unique banking model unlike anything in the Manitoba market today. One of our biggest challenges over the next two years will be marketing those new branches (in brand new markets to us) and encouraging bank customers to make the switch to Sunova.

As an in-house department, it?s often a challenge to balance our annual marketing plan with requests from branches and departments ? we have to be as flexible as possible and provide superior service to our customers (branches), while at the same time focusing on the big picture of developing and promoting the Sunova brand.

Critical Products to Market This Year

Over the next year, our major campaigns will focus on promoting our lending services as well as the benefits of membership with Sunova. As usual, we?ll also very much focus on our differentiating factors like our D.O.Gs and our new banking model (pod-style banking seven days a week).

How Do You Track Marketing ROI?

Together with our IT Department, we track results for our marketing campaigns so we can determine how successful our efforts have been. Through a variety of reporting methods, we can identify what results and growth is a result of our advertising and marketing strategies. In addition, we also coordinate member- and market research on a regular basis to measure brand awareness. Moving forward, we?re continually challenging ourselves and our branches to measure results, where possible, for our marketing investments.

Parties head for payroll floor fight (Politico)

House Republicans and Senate Democrats are barreling toward an all-out floor fight over the payroll tax holiday.

House GOP leaders are expected to announce Monday afternoon that they will attempt to pass their own fallback plan to extend the tax holiday until the end of 2012, after consulting with their members Tuesday. The bill could come to the floor as soon as Wednesday, sources say. House Republicans will meet both Tuesday and Wednesday in closed session.

And Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is making final preparations on a bill he?ll discuss with his leadership team Monday evening and with the full conference during a party lunch Tuesday.

Both sides will try to characterize their plans as compromises, in an attempt to convince voters they?re acting reasonable despite the rancor that?s gripped Congress since December. But whether the floor fight will ultimately lead to a bipartisan deal ? or simply force each side to dig in further ? remains to be seen.

Next week?s congressional recess will be in jeopardy if a deal isn?t within reach.

Neither side says it?s abandoning talks between Ways and Means Chairman Dave Camp (R-Mich.) and Senate Finance Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.), but the fresh action on both sides of the chamber point to a wide gulf between the two parties.

The fact that the conference committee ? which House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) pushed for ? could well fail speaks to the paralyzing gridlock that?s consumed Washington for much of the divided 112th Congress.

At the heart of the most recent dispute is how to finance a package expected to cost $160 billion over 10 years, in order to extend for the rest of the year expiring jobless benefits and a two-point reduction of the Social Security payroll tax break ? along with a rate fix for physicians servicing Medicare patients. Current law expires at month?s end.

Baucus and Camp spent the weekend negotiating, but the weekend ended with senior officials from both parties accusing the other of scuttling a compromise.

The discussions started heading south Sunday evening, when Republicans said Democrats walked away from several previously agreed upon positions. Reid (D-Nev.) began pushing hard for an increase in Transportation Security Administration fees, Republicans said. Democrats and chafed at the GOP?s characterizations of the talks, saying Republicans had balked at a potential compromise over taxes.

interpreting question 1 on problem set #3 | Business Risk ...

A student asked me for a clarification of question 1 on problem set #3. It reads as follows: ?A worker whose utility function?U(W) =?W.5?has received a job offer which pays $80,000 with a bonus. The bonus is equally likely to be $0, $10,000, $20,000, $30,000, $40,000, $50,000, or $60,000. Assume that initial wealth is $0.?

Here?s how to interpret this problem (in terms of properly delineating state probabilities and state-contingent values for wealth): there are 7 ?states of the world?, and since the bonus (over and above the salary of $80,000) is?equally likely?to be $0, $10,000, $20,000, $30,000, $40,000, $50,000, or $60,000, this implies that?ps?= 1/7 for each of the 7 states. Furthermore, since initial wealth is $0 and the salary is $80,000, it follows that state contingent wealth for the seven states of the world will be $80,000, $90,000, $100,000, $110,000, $120,000, $130,000, or $140,000.

The Roots pay tribute to Houston at pre-Grammy jam (AP)

LOS ANGELES ? The Roots saved some of their love for Whitney Houston.

After being joined by singer Elle Varner on stage early Sunday at the House of Blues on the Sunset Strip, the band launched into Houston's 1985 hit "Saving All My Love For You" during their 8th annual pre-Grammy concert.

There were no mournful speeches or moments of silence ? just a simple, soulful rendition of a Houston classic.

"I'm old school," said beatboxer Rahzel earlier in the evening. "Rest in peace, Whitney Houston."

The Roots took the stage just before midnight Saturday, hours after the world learned of the death of the 48-year-old pop-music queen. Other guests who grooved with the band for their pre-Grammy jam session tradition included Pras, Trombone Shorty, India.Arie, Childish Gambino and Shaggy, who delivered his hits "Boombastic" and "It Wasn't Me."

"Saving All My Love For You" wasn't the only cover the eclectic hip-hop band served the audience. The Roots also performed a staggering mash-up of Guns N' Roses' "Sweet Child o' Mine," George Thorogood and the Destroyers' "Bad to the Bone" and Bo Diddley's "Who Do You Love?"

Before the concert, Houston's "I'm Your Baby Tonight" was mixed in with the other songs pumped into the intimate venue as the crowd awaited the Roots' appearance. Several members of the audience cheered and sang the infectious Houston tune in unison.

John Goodman To Reunite With Roseanne Barr In New Sitcom? (omg!)

It's been nearly 15 years since John Goodman starred alongside Roseanne Barr in "Roseanne," but the pair may soon be heading to the small screen together once again.

Goodman is close to finalizing a deal to star in Barr's new comedy, "Downwardly Mobile," a rep for Goodman confirmed to Access Hollywood on Saturday.

PLAY IT NOW: Roseanne Barr Wants To Save The World With ?Roseanne?s Nuts?

The 59-year-old actor would reportedly play a worker at Barr's character's mobile home park on the upcoming NBC pilot.

"Downwardly Mobile" centers around a blue-collar family living through hard times, much like the Connor family of Barr's former self-titled sitcom, which enjoyed a nine-year run before its end in 1997.

Steven Greener, executive producer of the comedienne's Lifetime reality show, "Roseanne's Nuts" (which debuted last summer), will also serve as EP for the sitcom.
