Winter storm advisory across southeast New Mexico

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.?Much of southeast New Mexico will have a snowy Christmas Eve. The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning until 5 p.m. with additional accumulations of 1 to 4 inches of snow likely from the south-central mountains eastward to Roosevelt County.

The heaviest accumulations will be across Chaves and Roosevelt Counties. Less than an inch is expected across De Baca County. This will bring total snow accumulations of 8 to 14 inches across Chaves County with higher amounts across the high terrain and slightly lower amounts to the northeast.

Moderate to occasionally heavy snow will continue through the afternoon.

A winter storm warning for heavy snow means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow are forecast that will make travel dangerous.
