Our Traveling Tribe: TOS Review - Nature Nuts Card Game...

Recently, the Canadian company Griddley Games sent our family a copy of their Nature Nuts Card Game to review (we so love that they are NOT made in China!). The game sounded right up our alley - educational, great for multiple ages, and compact. Because living in an rv means that anything 'optional', like games, must take up a small amount of space to leave room for other mandatory items, like food, clothing, and books :)

Our family has really enjoyed Nature Nuts the past few weeks that we have had it to review! The game consists of 4 different decks of 50 cards, each deck has questions covering a different subject (plants, earth, animals, and Wise Alec), each card offering 2 questions (an easier question worth 3 points and a more difficult question for 7), and a colored die.

On their turn, each player must roll the die; if they roll red, yellow, or green, the player on their left picks up the top card from corresponding deck, the player then chooses whether he would like the 3 or 7 point question, which the player on the left then reads to them. The player then gets one guess; if their answer is correct, they earn the points, if they are wrong, no points are awarded and it's the next players turn. If the player rolled blue, they get to choose the subject card they would like, if they roll orange, the player to the right gets to choose what subject card the roller gets, and if purple was rolled, they get a Wise Alec card. The die roller must be prepared to do all sorts of goofy things demanded by a Wise Alec card - you may get a Brain Teaser, like 'name 5 types of amphibians' for 5 points, or you may recieve an Action card that reads something like 'walk like a penguin' for 3 points, or (my kids' favorites) a Tongue Twister card that tells you to say something like 'selfish sharks sell shut shellfish' 5 times for 7 points.
Play continues until someone has reached the point goal or a set time limit is up.

This game is great for multiple ages - simply modify the rules for each player as to how many points they must earn to win (a younger child might have the goal of 30 points while their older siblings must get 75, or make it madatory that the older child must always choose the 7 point questions...) - and the game comes with ideas to make multilevel play easier.

Nature Nuts is actually an expansion pack to Griddley Games' Wise Alec Trivia Game, and they also offer additional expansion packs, one called Civilize This, based on world history with decks for questions on Ancient, Medivel, and Modern history, and another expansion pack based on sports.

We are so glad that we were offered the chance to review Nature Nuts - I think that it will continue to be one of our favorite games for quite some time - the kids pull it out on their own and play it, and are actually retaining some of the facts that they learned from the game (after all, you may just get that question again)! Nature Nuts runs $12.95, and is promoted for ages 8 and up (tho we found the littler kids could easily play also!), 2 - 6 players (tho you could def have more); if you would like to check out Nature Nuts or Civilize This out for yourself, you can check them out at Griddley Games.

*disclaimer: A set of Nature Nuts cards was provided to our family at no cost in exchange for our honest review of the product.
